First Days at Pennebaker

In my first four hours at the Pennebaker marketing firm, I already feel as if I've been welcomed. When I went in on Monday April 10th, they set me up with a desk and an account to their Google. Immediately I felt as if I was part of the team. Around half an hour later I sat in on a meeting between the head of the company, two of the people in their creative division, and the head of a company in Florida that deals in kidnapping insurance. The next time I went (Wednesday April 12) they had me getting down to more work. I helped to enter locations and offices into a website that Pennebaker is building for one of their clients. At first glance, Pennebaker is already interesting. Their offices are bright and the layout of the office is easy to maneuver. There are personal touches from employees wherever you look and even the slightest contact with one of said employees elicits a smile. Everyone is willing to help you and talk to you. If I didn't know I was in high school I would've thought that I worked there. The employees are friendly and the administration is highly approachable. I really do believe that I will grow as a person during this internship.

The Second Week at Pennebaker

Over my second week at Pennebaker I had the chance to get to know the people I would be working with much better. I began to work on their marketing campaigns with the Google AdWords program and I have gained a good amount of understanding in how website traffic works. It's actually quite interesting seeing how the ads that reach your computer are determined. I spent my time at Pennebaker on April 17 and 19 working with AdWords and analyzing a presentation talking about how Pennebaker's ad campaigns are going. Through working on how well these campaigns are doing, my input on the choice between keeping the campaign running and pausing it is important in the way that I am potentially helping to save money and streamline Pennebaker's advertisement process. I feel like I'm really getting a chance to learn here. I've been able to learn about market psychology, different web tools, and even helped to build a website. Pennebaker December 12

Today I continued my work on the private equity firm research Mr. Byrd gave me. I’ve been widening my research a little bit more as Mr. Byrd has given me more material to work with: namely, Houston business and money journals. It’s very interesting to explore the diversity of private equity firms in Houston both by name and objective. I honestly never knew how diverse the private equity sector was. It’s interesting with what I’ve been reading about in Economics; this kind of thing happens every day. I’m enjoying learning about all of this!

Pennebaker December 7

Today I arrived all excited about the snow that we were expecting later in the night. Mr. Byrd wasn’t there while I worked so I went ahead and started working on my own. I got through a solid two and a half private equity companies of research while also interacting with the employees who worked as late as I did. I feel really happy making friends here and I’m only feeling more that I would love to have a job here. Reading about all of these private equity firms based in Houston also gives me this sense of just how big and profitable the city is. It’s really cool.
