One Month at Pennebaker

I've spent a month at Pennebaker now. This week I finished off my work on the internal advertisement analysis for Mr. Byrd and moved on to working on other outside projects. I spent some time working on putting information from a client's website into one of the content-gathering websites that Pennebaker uses. Even though transferring information could be considered a very mundane task, I still find all of the things I learn from the information itself very interesting. Plus it's still amazing to have contact with all of these competent young adults. I feel like I'm being immersed in an office culture that creates a space for people to think, plan, and act. It's an incredible opportunity and I would be happy to pass this off to another student when I move on to college. It's so incredible.

The Second Week at Pennebaker

Over my second week at Pennebaker I had the chance to get to know the people I would be working with much better. I began to work on their marketing campaigns with the Google AdWords program and I have gained a good amount of understanding in how website traffic works. It's actually quite interesting seeing how the ads that reach your computer are determined. I spent my time at Pennebaker on April 17 and 19 working with AdWords and analyzing a presentation talking about how Pennebaker's ad campaigns are going. Through working on how well these campaigns are doing, my input on the choice between keeping the campaign running and pausing it is important in the way that I am potentially helping to save money and streamline Pennebaker's advertisement process. Pennebaker December 12

Today I continued my work on the private equity firm research Mr. Byrd gave me. I’ve been widening my research a little bit more as Mr. Byrd has given me more material to work with: namely, Houston business and money journals. It’s very interesting to explore the diversity of private equity firms in Houston both by name and objective. I honestly never knew how diverse the private equity sector was. It’s interesting with what I’ve been reading about in Economics; this kind of thing happens every day. I’m enjoying learning about all of this!

Pennebaker January 30

In the past few months at Pennebaker I've taken up the project of researching private equity firms for Mr. Byrd. He and I have been interacting and making contact outside of school about exactly what the spreadsheets I've created entail: a list of employees, their contact information, the company's portfolio and its contents, and the company's contact information. I've learned a lot about the private equity world in Houston as well as nationally and maybe even somewhat internationally. These firms are a big part of innovation. They invest in and buy companies that they are interested in and that they see potential in before funding them and using them to push innovation forward. I think these private equity firms investing in energy, power, computers, and other innovative fields have really been set up to push the world forward. Take SpaceX.
